Who are the CMA9?

The CMA9 are the nine largest banks and building societies in the UK, by volume of personal and business current accounts. Comprising a combined market share of over 90% of the UK’s consumer and small business bank accounts, they were identified by the CMA as part of the Open Banking initiative to create open-source APIs for the initial rollout of Open Banking in January 2018.

The CMA9 comprise the following banks and building societies:

2. Bank of Ireland (UK) plc
3. Barclays Bank plc
4. HSBC Group
5. Lloyds Banking Group plc
6. Nationwide Building Society
7. Northern Bank Limited (trading as Danske Bank)
8. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc
9. Santander UK plc
