What is Open API?

An open API is a publicly available Application Programming Interface (API). It enables developers to access programmatically the proprietary software application or web service of the API owner. A requirement of PSD2 and Open Banking, banks were required to create open APIs that give access to payment accounts. Open APIs stand in contrast to private or premium APIs that are usually hidden behind paywalls.
